Christmas Concerts (Year 2+)
Overview
Christmas Concert week is a wonderful experience for all! Students perform in front of an audience of peers and family are invited to attend to see the fantastic progress they have been making. It is a low-pressure environment where we aim to celebrate each student and where they are on their musical journey.
When to start preparing with your student
You should begin preparing for the Christmas concerts at least 1 month in advance. This does not mean learning a new piece 1 month in advance, but rather polishing a piece that they have learned late September or early October.
What will each student play?
By Christmas concerts, each student should have something that they are comfortable playing. Each child will play one piece they know well. When choosing a piece for the Christmas concert, consider a piece that will play well as a performance.

Please remember! If your student is struggling we encourage teachers to gently offer a little on-stage support! For many this is their first performance, so the goal is to make sure it's as positive an experience as possible.

Student Attendance
All students will be allocated a concert time and will be expected to play unless the parent/teacher has notified the office.

Beginners' Concert
Designed for students in their first year of instrumental studies, this informal concert combines students of different instruments in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere.

The goal? Give students a safe and fun opportunity to grow their performance skills supported by enthusiastic teachers who can help them shine.

What will each student play?
Performance outline: One piece 3 ways
Choose your students piece and perform it 3 different ways. As they are beginners, we highly encourage teachers to join in and perform with them. The Piece or exercise they are playing will be fairly simple, but can be showcased in many different ways. Below is an example of what this might look like:
1. Start with the child singing the words of the piece (If there are no words you can sing in solfa, or make words up!)
2. Clapping rhythm of piece and/or saying rhythm names
3. Playing the piece on their instrument. (e.g. child plays the melody; teacher plays simple accompaniment.)

We understand each beginner will be at a different level, so please tailor their performance for their chosen piece and ability. Remember, the most important thing is for the student to enjoy themselves and hear the audience giving them a big applause at the end!
