Colorstrings / Music Kindergarten
Music Kindergarten
Colourstrings training starts in Music Kindergarten where children experience the basic elements of music through singing, listening, moving and playing simple percussion instruments in a stimulating and exciting environment. Our aim is to provide a set of experiences in the classes, which will help to develop within each child, a personal response to music and which will positively enhance all areas of the child's development. We believe that by introducing music in a playful way at an early age parents can develop in the child a love for and appreciation of music which will last a lifetime.

Children starting the Music Kindergarten classes learn about different musical concepts - pitch, rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo, character, form and style - in an enjoyable and stimulating way through a carefully chosen repertoire of songs and rhymes. The young child's response to pitch, beat and rhythm develops in a natural way through active experience of these elements. All learning is unconscious at this stage and takes place in a playful manner with the emphasis on music making and enjoyment.
In the Stage 2 courses the musical concepts such as high/low, loud/soft, fast/slow, are taken from well known songs and made half conscious to the young child by naming and practising these concepts through games and other activities. The final stage comes when these concepts are made fully conscious through the introduction of their written symbols. The child gradually learns to associate the sounds heard internally with their written symbols.
Activities in Music Kindergarten include unaccompanied singing, rhythm games, movement to music including dancing and creative movement, playing tuned and untuned percussion instruments, listening to music, both live and recorded, performing, composing and improvising. This is a holistic approach, which takes into account the complete development of each child as an individual.
